Library@chinatown is a public library located in Chinatown, Singapore. It is managed by the National Library Board (NLB) and is the first library in Singapore to be co-managed by the community. The library is situated within Chinatown Point, a shopping mall in the heart of Chinatown.

The Library@chinatown was officially opened on 22 January 2013. It was the first library in Singapore to be co-managed by the community, with volunteers playing a significant role in its operations. The library was established with the aim of promoting Chinese culture and heritage.

Collection[edit | edit source]

The library houses a collection of over 180,000 items, with a focus on Chinese arts and culture. The collection includes books, periodicals, and multimedia materials in four languages: English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil. The library also has a special collection of rare and out-of-print publications on Chinese culture and heritage.

Facilities[edit | edit source]

The library spans two floors and has a total floor area of 1,200 square meters. Facilities include a reading area, multimedia stations, and a programme zone for cultural performances and talks. The library also features an interactive wall display that showcases the history and culture of Chinatown.

Community involvement[edit | edit source]

The Library@chinatown is run by a team of volunteers who assist in various aspects of the library's operations, including customer service, programme planning, and collection development. The library also hosts regular events and activities to engage the community and promote Chinese culture and heritage.
