List of American Viticultural Areas

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) are designated wine grape-growing regions in the United States distinguishable by geographic features, with boundaries defined by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) of the United States Department of the Treasury.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The establishment of AVAs allows vintners to describe more accurately the origin of their wines to consumers and helps consumers to identify wines they may purchase. The AVAs are delimited by geographical features such as mountains, rivers, and soil types.
