The London Borough of Islington is a London borough in Inner London, England. It was formed in 1965 by merging the former metropolitan boroughs of Islington and Finsbury. The borough is known for its vibrant nightlife, historic architecture, and diverse community. It encompasses a mix of affluent areas and social housing, reflecting the wide economic disparities within its boundaries.

The area that is now the London Borough of Islington has a rich history dating back to the Roman period. The names "Islington" and "Finsbury" are of Anglo-Saxon origin, suggesting that the area was settled by the English well before the Norman Conquest. The metropolitan boroughs of Islington and Finsbury were established in the late 19th century and were merged to form the modern borough in 1965 under the London Government Act 1963.
