Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala (MG University or MGU) is a public university located in the southern state of Kerala, India. It was established on October 2, 1983, by the Government of Kerala through an act of the State Legislature. Named after Mahatma Gandhi, the university reflects the ideals of its namesake in promoting higher education and fostering an environment of academic excellence and social relevance.

The inception of Mahatma Gandhi University was part of a broader vision to provide higher education opportunities to the rural and semi-urban areas of Central Kerala. It was established with the objective of fulfilling the educational needs of the people of Central Kerala and to make higher education accessible to all sections of the community, especially the marginalized and economically backward sections.

The main campus of MG University is located in Athirampuzha, 13 kilometers from Kottayam. The campus is set in a picturesque environment and is home to several academic departments, research centers, and administrative offices. The university also has several off-campus centres and affiliated colleges spread across the districts of Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta.
