Maria Teresa Landi

Maria Teresa Landi is an Italian-born American epidemiologist and geneticist known for her significant contributions to the field of genetic epidemiology. She is currently a Senior Investigator at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where she leads the Genetic Epidemiology Branch (GEB) in the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG).

Maria Teresa Landi was born in Italy. She completed her medical degree at the University of Pisa, specializing in Internal Medicine. She later obtained a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of Turin.

Landi began her career as a researcher at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Bethesda, Maryland. She has made significant contributions to the understanding of the genetic basis of cancer, particularly lung cancer and melanoma. Her research focuses on the integration of genomic, epigenomic, and environmental data to identify individuals at high risk of developing cancer.

Landi's research has led to the identification of several novel cancer susceptibility genes and biomarkers for lung cancer and melanoma. Her work has also contributed to the development of risk prediction models for these cancers, which are used to guide cancer screening and prevention strategies.
