Marshall University is a public research university located in Huntington, West Virginia. Founded in 1837, the university is named after John Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of the United States. Marshall University is a coeducational comprehensive institution offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degrees across various fields of study.

Marshall University was established in 1837 as Marshall Academy. It was named after John Marshall, who had died earlier that year.
