National Commission for Health Education Credentialing
National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) is a non-profit organization in the United States that offers certification for health education specialists. The organization was established in 1988 with the aim of improving the professional practice of Health Education by promoting and sustaining a credentialed body of Health Education Specialists.

The National Commission for Health Education Credentialing was established in 1988. The organization was formed in response to the need for a professional certification for health education specialists, to ensure that professionals meet the standards of practice and possess the knowledge and skills necessary to provide health education.
Certification[edit | edit source]
The NCHEC offers two levels of certification: the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and the Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES). The CHES certification is an entry-level certification, while the MCHES is an advanced-level certification.
Certified Health Education Specialist[edit | edit source]
The Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification is designed for individuals who have a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in health education or a related field. The certification exam covers seven areas of responsibility and competency in health education: assessing needs, planning, implementing, evaluating, coordinating, acting as a resource, and advocating for health education.
Master Certified Health Education Specialist[edit | edit source]
The Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) certification is designed for individuals who have at least five years of experience in health education and who have a master's degree or higher in health education or a related field. The certification exam covers the same seven areas of responsibility and competency as the CHES exam, but with a greater emphasis on leadership, advanced practice, and research.
Recognition[edit | edit source]
The NCHEC's certifications are recognized by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) and the National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE). The certifications are also recognized by many employers in the health education field.
