Obesity in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, officially known as the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, is an island country located in South Asia. It is surrounded by the Indian Ocean and lies in the vicinity of India and the Maldives. In 2016, Sri Lanka had an adult obesity rate of 5.2%, ranking it 182nd globally.

Obesity in Sri Lanka[edit | edit source]

Obesity, defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more, is a significant health concern worldwide. In Sri Lanka, the adult obesity rate was 5.2% in 2016. This relatively low rate compared to other countries placed Sri Lanka at 182nd position in the global obesity ranking.

Despite the low obesity rate, the country has been taking steps to address this health issue. The government has implemented various health programs and campaigns to promote healthy eating habits and regular physical activity among its population.

Sri Lanka has several well-known healthcare facilities that offer weight loss programs and treatments. These include:
