Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is a non-profit organization in the United States dedicated to making healthier choices more accessible to all Americans. The organization was founded in 2010 in conjunction with First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! initiative, which aimed to combat childhood obesity within a generation.

Mission[edit | edit source]

The mission of the Partnership for a Healthier America is to transform the food landscape in pursuit of health equity. PHA works with the private sector to ensure the health of our nation’s youth by solving the childhood obesity crisis. The organization collaborates with various stakeholders, including food and beverage companies, retailers, restaurants, and non-profit organizations, to create healthier environments for children and families.

Programs and Initiatives[edit | edit source]

PHA has launched several key programs and initiatives to promote healthier lifestyles:

FNV Campaign[edit | edit source]

The FNV (Fruits and Vegetables) Campaign is a marketing initiative designed to increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables among Americans. The campaign uses celebrity endorsements and creative marketing strategies to make fruits and vegetables more appealing.

Drink Up[edit | edit source]

The Drink Up initiative encourages Americans to drink more water. The campaign promotes water as a healthy and accessible beverage choice, partnering with bottled water companies and public water systems to spread the message.

Healthier Campus Initiative[edit | edit source]

The Healthier Campus Initiative works with colleges and universities to create healthier food and physical activity environments on campuses. Participating institutions commit to meeting specific guidelines that promote health and wellness among students, faculty, and staff.

Shaping Early Palates[edit | edit source]

This initiative focuses on improving the nutritional quality of food served in early childhood education settings. PHA collaborates with childcare providers to ensure that young children have access to healthy meals and snacks, setting the foundation for lifelong healthy eating habits.

Partnerships[edit | edit source]

PHA partners with a wide range of organizations to achieve its goals. These partners include major food manufacturers, retail chains, restaurant groups, and community organizations. By working together, these partners help to create a healthier food environment and make nutritious options more accessible and affordable.

Impact[edit | edit source]

Since its inception, PHA has made significant strides in improving the health of Americans. The organization has secured commitments from numerous companies to reformulate products, reduce portion sizes, and increase the availability of healthier options. PHA's efforts have contributed to a greater awareness of the importance of healthy eating and physical activity.

Leadership[edit | edit source]

The organization is led by a team of experts in public health, nutrition, and business. The leadership team works closely with the Board of Directors, which includes representatives from various sectors, to guide PHA's strategic direction and ensure the success of its initiatives.
