Phan Thi Kim Phuc is a Vietnamese-Canadian woman known for her association with the Vietnam War. She was born on April 2, 1963, in Trang Bang, Vietnam. Phuc gained international recognition after a photograph of her as a young girl fleeing a napalm attack during the Vietnam War became iconic.

Phan Thi Kim Phuc was born in Trang Bang, a village in South Vietnam. She was raised in a loving family and enjoyed a peaceful childhood until the outbreak of the Vietnam War.

Vietnam War[edit | edit source]

During the Vietnam War, on June 8, 1972, Phan Thi Kim Phuc, then a nine-year-old girl, was severely burned by napalm in an attack on her village. The famous photograph taken by Nick Ut shows her running naked and in pain, with other children, after the attack. The image captured the horrors of war and became a symbol of the suffering endured by civilians during the conflict.

After the War[edit | edit source]

Phan Thi Kim Phuc underwent numerous surgeries to treat her burns and scars. Despite the physical and emotional trauma she endured, she eventually found peace and forgiveness in her heart. Phuc later defected to Canada and became a Canadian citizen.

Phan Thi Kim Phuc is a peace activist and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. She uses her platform to advocate for peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Phuc shares her story to raise awareness about the impact of war on civilians and promote healing and understanding.
