Phyllis Kirk (September 18, 1927 – October 19, 2006) was an American actress best known for her role as Nora Charles in the television series The Thin Man (1957-1959). Born in Syracuse, New York, Kirk pursued an acting career that spanned over two decades, featuring in both film and television roles that showcased her versatility and talent.

Phyllis Kirkegaard, later known as Phyllis Kirk, was born to a Danish father and an Irish mother. She grew up in a household that encouraged her early interest in the performing arts. After completing her education, she moved to New York City to pursue her acting career, studying at the prestigious Actors Studio.

Kirk's career began on the stage, where she appeared in several Broadway productions. Her transition to the silver screen was marked by her role in the 1950 film Our Very Own, which opened the door to more significant film roles. She is perhaps most famously known for her role as Lila Crane in the 1953 horror film House of Wax, where she starred alongside Vincent Price. This role cemented her status as a notable actress in the horror genre.

In 1957, Kirk transitioned to television, taking on the role of Nora Charles in The Thin Man, a series based on the Dashiell Hammett novel and subsequent film series of the same name. Her portrayal of Nora Charles, alongside co-star Peter Lawford as Nick Charles, was met with critical acclaim and has since become her most iconic role.

Throughout her career, Kirk appeared in numerous television shows, including guest appearances on popular series such as Perry Mason and The Twilight Zone. Despite her success on screen, she eventually moved away from acting in the late 1960s to focus on other interests.
