Pyridinecarboxylic acids are a group of organic compounds which are derivatives of pyridine with a carboxylic acid functional group. They are part of a broader class of compounds known as heterocyclic compounds, which contain a ring structure composed of at least two different elements, one of which is carbon. Pyridinecarboxylic acids are important in various fields, including pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and organic synthesis. There are several types of pyridinecarboxylic acids, distinguished by the position of the carboxylic acid group on the pyridine ring. The most common and well-studied members of this family include nicotinic acid (niacin or vitamin B3), picolinic acid, and isonicotinic acid.

Deficiency in nicotinic acid leads to pellagra, a disease characterized by dermatitis, diarrhea, and dementia.
