Sandies

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Sandies are a type of cookie that originated in Scotland. They are also popular in other parts of the world, including the United States, where they are often known as "Mexican wedding cookies" or "Russian tea cakes".

History[edit | edit source]

The name "Sandies" is believed to have originated from the sandy texture of these cookies. They are traditionally made with a combination of butter, sugar, flour, and sometimes nuts. The cookies are typically small, round, and covered in powdered sugar.

In Scotland, Sandies are often served during Christmas and New Year's Eve celebrations. In the United States, they are a common feature at weddings and other special occasions.

Variations[edit | edit source]

There are many variations of Sandies around the world. In Mexico, they are known as "biscochitos" and are often flavored with anise and cinnamon. In Russia, they are called "pryaniki" and are typically made with honey and spices.

Preparation[edit | edit source]

To prepare Sandies, the butter and sugar are first creamed together until light and fluffy. The flour is then gradually added, followed by any additional ingredients such as nuts or spices. The dough is rolled into small balls, baked until golden, and then rolled in powdered sugar while still warm.
