Schering AG

Schering AG was a research-centered German multinational pharmaceutical company headquartered in Wedding, Berlin. It was founded in 1851 by Ernst Christian Friedrich Schering as Schering'sche Apotheke. The company merged with Bayer in 2006 and was renamed Bayer Schering Pharma AG.

Schering AG was founded in 1851 by Ernst Christian Friedrich Schering as Schering'sche Apotheke in the Mitte district of Berlin. From 1918 onwards, Schering AG operated as a public limited company, or Aktiengesellschaft in German.

In 1929, the company became the world's largest producer of hormonal preparations due to its development of the first reliable pregnancy test. Schering AG focused on the business areas of gynaecology, andrology, multiple sclerosis, oncology, and contrast agents.

In 2006, Schering AG was acquired by Bayer and was renamed Bayer Schering Pharma AG. The acquisition was one of the largest in the history of the German pharmaceutical industry.

Schering AG was known for the manufacture of high-quality pharmaceutical products. Some of its well-known products included the oral contraceptive Yasmin, the multiple sclerosis drug Betaferon, and the cancer drug Nexavar.

Schering AG was a research-intensive pharmaceutical company. It invested heavily in research and development, with a focus on the areas of gynaecology, andrology, multiple sclerosis, oncology, and contrast agents.

Today, the legacy of Schering AG lives on in the form of Bayer Schering Pharma AG, which continues to be a leading player in the global pharmaceutical industry.
