Selvarey Rum

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Selvarey Rum is a Panamanian rum brand that was founded in 2014. The name "Selvarey" is derived from the Spanish words "selva", meaning jungle, and "rey", meaning king. The brand is known for its premium, aged rums that are distilled in the jungles of Panama.

History[edit | edit source]

Selvarey Rum was founded by brothers Marc and Seth Gold, and their partner Robert Herzig. The trio were inspired to create a premium rum that could be sipped neat, similar to a fine whiskey or cognac. They partnered with master blender Francisco "Don Pancho" Fernandez, a renowned figure in the rum industry, to create their signature blends.

Production[edit | edit source]

Selvarey Rum is produced in the Herrera Province of Panama, using locally sourced sugarcane. The rum is distilled in copper column stills, then aged in American oak barrels. The aging process gives the rum its distinctive flavor and smoothness.

The brand produces two main varieties of rum: Selvarey White and Selvarey Cacao. Selvarey White is a blend of three and five-year-old rums, while Selvarey Cacao is infused with natural chocolate flavor.

Recognition[edit | edit source]

Selvarey Rum has received several awards for its quality and taste. It was awarded a Double Gold medal at the 2014 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and has also received high ratings from the Beverage Testing Institute.

In popular culture[edit | edit source]

In 2020, singer Bruno Mars became a co-owner of Selvarey Rum. Mars also serves as the brand's creative director, and has featured the rum in several of his music videos.
