Southeast Sulawesi

Southeast Sulawesi (Sulawesi Tenggara) is a province of Indonesia. It is located on the southeastern peninsula of the island of Sulawesi. The capital of the province is Kendari.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Southeast Sulawesi is surrounded by Banda Sea to the east and south, Gulf of Bone to the west, and Gulf of Tolo to the north. The province includes numerous smaller islands, such as Buton Island, Muna Island, and Wakatobi Islands.

History[edit | edit source]

The region was part of the Majapahit Empire and later the Sultanate of Gowa before becoming part of the Dutch East Indies. It became a separate province of Indonesia in 1964.

Culture[edit | edit source]

The culture of Southeast Sulawesi is diverse, with influence from the Bugis, Butonese, and Tolaki peoples. Traditional music includes the Lulo, a type of drum dance.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The economy of Southeast Sulawesi is based on agriculture, fishing, and mining. Major crops include rice, corn, coconut, and clove. The province is also a major producer of nickel.

Cuisine[edit | edit source]

The cuisine of Southeast Sulawesi is rich and varied, with dishes such as Sinonggi, a sago porridge, and Kapusu Anai, a type of fish soup.

Tourism[edit | edit source]

Southeast Sulawesi is known for its beautiful beaches and marine parks, including Wakatobi National Park and Bunaken National Park.
