Sport in India has a significant part in Indian culture. The most popular sports in India are Cricket and Field Hockey. India has also made its mark in the international circuit in sports like Badminton and Tennis.

Cricket[edit | edit source]

Cricket is the most popular sport in India. The Indian national cricket team won the 1983 Cricket World Cup, the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. The domestic competitions include the Ranji Trophy, the Duleep Trophy, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the Deodhar Trophy, the Irani Trophy, and the Indian Premier League.

Field Hockey[edit | edit source]

Field Hockey is a popular sport in India. The Indian national field hockey team won the 1975 Men's Hockey World Cup and 8 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals at the Olympic Games. However, the popularity of field hockey has declined in recent years.

Badminton[edit | edit source]

Badminton is a popular sport in India. Indian badminton players like P.V. Sindhu and Saina Nehwal have won medals at the Olympic Games.

Tennis[edit | edit source]

Tennis is a popular sport in India. Indian tennis players like Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, and Sania Mirza have won Grand Slam titles.

Other Sports[edit | edit source]

Other popular sports in India include Football, Chess, Boxing, and Wrestling. India has also made its mark in Athletics and Shooting at the international level.
