Stella, Liguria

Stella is a municipality located in the Liguria region of Italy. It is part of the Province of Savona, which is one of the four provinces in the region. The municipality is situated in the western part of Liguria, a coastal region known for its picturesque landscapes and rich cultural heritage.

Stella is nestled in the Ligurian Alps, offering a unique blend of mountainous and coastal landscapes. The municipality is divided into five hamlets, or fraziones: Stella San Giovanni, Stella San Martino, Stella San Giustina, Stella Cacchiani, and Stella Gambatesa. Each frazione has its own distinct character and history, contributing to the overall diversity of the municipality.

The history of Stella is deeply intertwined with the broader history of Liguria and Italy. The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with archaeological evidence suggesting the presence of Ligures, an ancient Indo-European people. During the Roman Empire, the region was incorporated into the province of Alpes Maritimae. In the Middle Ages, Stella was part of the Republic of Genoa, a powerful maritime republic.
