Stipe Miocic (born August 19, 1982) is an American professional mixed martial artist and firefighter. He is currently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he competes in the Heavyweight division. Miocic is a former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion and is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweights in MMA history.

Early life[edit | edit source]

Miocic was born in Euclid, Ohio, to Croatian parents. He attended Eastlake North High School and later Cleveland State University, where he played baseball and wrestled. Miocic also attended Trevecca Nazarene University.

Mixed martial arts career[edit | edit source]

Miocic began his professional MMA career in 2010. He quickly made a name for himself with his powerful striking and wrestling skills. Miocic made his UFC debut on October 8, 2011, at UFC 136, where he defeated Joey Beltran by unanimous decision.

UFC Heavyweight Champion[edit | edit source]

Miocic won the UFC Heavyweight Championship for the first time on May 14, 2016, at UFC 198, by defeating Fabrício Werdum via knockout in the first round. He successfully defended the title three times, setting a record for the most consecutive title defenses in UFC heavyweight history.

Miocic lost the title to Daniel Cormier on July 7, 2018, at UFC 226, but regained it in a rematch on August 17, 2019, at UFC 241. He defended the title once more before losing it to Francis Ngannou on March 27, 2021, at UFC 260.

Personal life[edit | edit source]

In addition to his MMA career, Miocic works as a part-time firefighter and paramedic in Oakwood, Ohio, and Valley View, Ohio. He is married to Ryan Marie Carney, and the couple has two children.
