Té Bheag

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Té Bheag is a renowned Gaelic Whisky produced in Scotland. It is a blended whisky that is unchilfiltered, a process that retains the whisky's natural flavors and character. The name 'Té Bheag' is derived from the Gaelic language, meaning 'the little lady', and is often used as a term of endearment.

History[edit | edit source]

Té Bheag was first produced by Pràban na Linne Ltd, a company founded by Sir Iain Noble in 1976. The company was established with the aim of providing employment in the Isle of Skye and to promote the Gaelic language. Té Bheag is one of the few whiskies in the market that uses the Gaelic language on its packaging and marketing materials.

Production[edit | edit source]

Té Bheag is a blended whisky, which means it is a mix of different types of whiskies. The blend includes a high proportion of aged single malts from the Isle of Skye, Speyside, and Isle of Islay. The whisky is unchilfiltered, a process that allows the whisky to retain its natural flavors and character. This process also gives Té Bheag a distinctive, full-bodied taste.

Taste and Aroma[edit | edit source]

Té Bheag has a smooth and slightly peaty flavor, with a hint of maltiness and a complex aromatic sequence. The aroma is slightly peaty and has a hint of seaweed, a characteristic of its island malts. The finish is long and warming, with a hint of sherry sweetness.

Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]

Té Bheag has received several awards for its quality and taste. It was awarded the Gold Medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in 2006 and 2007. It also received the Silver Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2008.
