The University of Bern (Universität Bern in German) is a prestigious higher education institution located in Bern, the capital city of Switzerland. Established in 1834, it has grown to become a leading center for research and education in Switzerland and internationally. The University of Bern was founded on 4th November 1834, following the merger of an existing theological college with a new faculty of law. It expanded rapidly, adding faculties of medicine in 1835, philosophy in 1885, and veterinary medicine in 1903.
