Celestial Seasonings is an American tea company based in Boulder, Colorado. The company specializes in herbal teas, but also produces green, white, and black teas. Celestial Seasonings was founded in 1969 by Mo Siegel, who began by harvesting wild herbs in the mountains around Boulder and selling them to local health food stores.

History[edit | edit source]

Celestial Seasonings was established in 1969 when Mo Siegel and his friends began gathering herbs and selling them to local health food stores. The company was named after a friend's flower name, "Celestial." In 1972, the company introduced its first blend, "Red Zinger," which became a popular product. By the mid-1970s, Celestial Seasonings had expanded its product line and distribution network, becoming a well-known brand in the herbal tea market.

In 1984, Celestial Seasonings was acquired by Kraft Foods, but it was later sold to The Hain Celestial Group in 2000. Under Hain Celestial, the company continued to grow and innovate, introducing new flavors and expanding its market reach.
