Necopidem
Necopidem is a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic agent. It is a pyrazolopyrimidine derivative and is structurally related to other nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic agents such as zolpidem, zopiclone, and eszopiclone. Necopidem was developed by the pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Aventis but was never marketed.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
Necopidem is a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic agent. It acts as an agonist at the GABA_A receptor, the same mechanism of action shared by benzodiazepines. However, unlike benzodiazepines, necopidem has a pyrazolopyrimidine structure. This makes it a nonbenzodiazepine, and it is classified as such.
Development and Marketing[edit | edit source]
Necopidem was developed by the pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Aventis. Despite its development, it was never marketed. The reasons for this are not publicly known.
